Are derailleur jockey wheels universal?
Jockey wheels are not universal. They vary in diameter, which corresponds to tooth count. They vary in thickness. They vary in the diameter of the center hole by which they’re bolted to the cage.
Are jockey wheels compatible?
Any Shimano ones will fit. Just make sure you get a pair, as the top and bottom ones are different sized. Doesn’t matter about 9/10 speed, they’ll all work.
Do ceramic jockey wheels make a difference?
According to research, a well-made ceramic bearing will roll faster, saving you energy and allowing faster cruising speeds compared to an equivalent steel bearing. This is because the properties of ceramic allow the creation of rounder, smoother bearings.
Are all jockey wheels the same size?
The most important one is the diameter of the jockey wheel. At ATE, we stock six different diameters. The 35mm, 42mm, 48mm, 48mm serrated, 60mm, and 63mm. So, for light weight trailers, a 35mm would be the best fit.
Is it worth changing jockey wheels?
If the teeth on the jockey wheel are worn and rounded or sharp and jagged, it’s usually worth replacing to save the life of your chain, derailleur and cassette — which are more expensive parts. If the wheel doesn’t spin freely or grinds, your bearings could be worn down and your jockey wheels may need replacing.
Are bigger jockey wheels better?
bigger jockey wheels will rotate with fewer rpm for a given cadence, so less wear and tear. bigger jockey wheels mean more teeth (bigger circumference), so less wear and tear.
Which pulley is the guide pulley?
The ‘G’ or guide pulley, sometimes called the centeron pulley goes in the top position closest to the cassette. Most can go either way around but some have a certain direction of rotation, if that’s the case with yours they will have a direction arrow on them.
What size jockey wheels do I need?
The 35mm, 42mm, 48mm, 48mm serrated, 60mm, and 63mm. So, for light weight trailers, a 35mm would be the best fit. For larger trailers and some unbraked boat trailers, you would require a 42mm. And heavy duty commercial trailers would normally require a 48mm serrated, 60, or 63mm diameter.
What does an oversize pulley do?
It handles shifting too and it’s important to keep the derailleur on the bike when making a sharp right in a crit race, maybe a bit too close to a curb. This is where things get interesting: oversized pulleys mean a longer distance between the center of the pulley and where the chain runs.
