What does a debate club do?
Debate clubs provide students a chance to understand real world situations and make educated opinions. Debate teams show how there is a way to have an open mind and how to civilly disagree. Students improve their communication skills and their chance of being successful in the future.
What does speech and debate club do?
In the Oral Interpretation events competitors take pieces of literature and poetry and present their interpretation of them in a 10-minute scene either by themselves or with a partner. In Debate students work as a team to prove their side of an argument against another team from a different school.

The Debate Team offers students the opportunity to explore controversial, topical, and interesting issues while gaining valuable experience in public speaking, forming and defending arguments, and competing against other schools’ debate teams.
Do and don’ts of debate?
The Don’ts of debate:
- Do not address the adjudicator.
- Never carry the piece of paper or any other form of notes.
- Do not forget about mannerism on the stage.
- Do not interrupt other speakers while they are speaking.
- Do not shout or talk loudly.
- Do not use ‘um’ or ’em; within the speech.
Why should you join debate club?
Participating in debate gives students an improved perspective on the world around them — you’ll learn about important issues in politics, public policy, and philosophy and gain a better appreciation for the diverse perspectives that make up the public sphere. Everyone has opinions.
Is debate class hard?
It’s more challenging than hard. Debate requires A LOT of research, and that is time-consuming. Students who use their time wisely to research and write multiple drafts find the course more rewarding and less difficult than students who procrastinate. Debaters also debate in class — in front of their peers.
Why a debate club at school?
The club could also help students to become more informed about political and global affairs, or provide a venue for students to train for debate competitions with local school, or at a national level. Most existing schools debate clubs rely on older students to help to organise the club, or to advise the younger students.
What is a debdebate club?
Debate clubs are formed within schools, universities, youth clubs and community centers. Although they are usually initiated at the school level, they can also be formed in community and youth centers in countries where political conditions make it difficult to work within the school system.
What is debate league for children?
Children build their confidence, and develop presentation skills, responsibility, leadership skills, critical thinking skills, and friendships. Designed with a national champion debater and Pro Tournament champion, Debate League (currently beta testing), is a curriculum for teaching high-level debate skills to youth.
How does idea get teachers involved in debate?
During the first year of the program, IDEA reaches out to secondary school teachers interested in debate. These initial trainees receive extensive instruction in the fundamentals of debate, along with information on how to create debate clubs in their schools.
