What is permount?
Permount is a toluene-based synthetic resin mounting medium that is ideal for rapid mounting and long term storage of slides. Its low viscosity allows for a thinner mounting layer offering better optical quality and bubble-free preparations.
How long does Permount take to dry?
Permount should dry overnight. I normally use only 1 drop for mounting a 22x22mm coverslip, maybe 2 drops. Use a Pasteur pipette. Put your slides in a well ventilated area to dry.
What is permount made of?

How do I get rid of Permount?

How do you dissolve Permount?
Use Q tips dipped in Xylene, tap them on paper towel, so they are not carrying too much fluid and wipe the streak. If the streak has substantial amount of permount, scrape it off with a fresh razor blade first. Good luck.

Soak the slides in xylene until the coverslips are removed. Rinse off residual medium from the tissue sections in 2 changes of fresh xylene; followed by descending grades of alcohol starting from an absolute alcohol (2 changes) ending in 95% (1 change), followed by DI water.
How do you get a coverslip off?
The method involves scoring the coverslip with a scalpel and rubbing an ice block over the scored coverslip. A thin film of water then runs between the glass and the resin, which expands during cooling and causes the coverslip to spring away.
