The crank on the Z1 and KZ900’s is substantially lighter than the KZ1000 crank. The first Z1’s (up to mid Z1A production) ran a different combination of 28 mm carbs and ignition advance timing than the later Z1A and Z1B model.
Why did the KZ1000 have 26mm carbs and Puny main jets?
When Kawasaki launched the KZ1000, the crank weight allowed the bike to create more torque, but those motors just couldn’t rev quick with thos 26mm carbs and puny main jets – just 102.5 main jets versus the 115 main jet in the KZ900 carbs – that area alone tells a very telling story.

What kind of wheels does a CSR 1000 have?
The 81 CSR 1000 is a KZ1000-M1. There was also an M2. Most CSRs had wire spoked wheels. CSR models are similar to Ltds in that they have extra chrome & 16″ Rr wheel with a fat rear tire. Value-wise I don’t think there’s anything special about the 1000-CSR, except that it is a KZ1000.
