What are the three types of pistons?

- As simple as it sounds, a flat-top piston has a flat top.

How do you know if pistons are oversized?
There will be markings and Numbers on the side of the piston BUT You won’t be able to see them when its inside the bore. You may get a clue by measuring the bore as to whether that is standard or oversized.
Are JE pistons good?
They are very high quality pistons which are machined and forged in USA in state of the art facilities, just like JE. One of the major differences is that they use 4032 alloy rather then the 2618 alloy JE typically uses. This alloy isn’t quite as strong, but has less thermal expansion, so motors can be built tighter.
Are flat top pistons better?
But this comes with a bit of a weight penalty versus a flat-top piston, so the dished piston is more suitable for large-displacement, low-rpm engines. All of this makes the flat-top piston preferable for most performance engines, particularly those that don’t use hemispherical combustion chambers.
What pistons are best for boost?
If the plan calls for serious nitrous, boost, or rpm, and bulletproof is what you are after, a 2618 piston is the right choice.
Does boring an engine increase horsepower?
From a performance standpoint, boring an engine could give you more horsepower and torque, as it will change the engine’s displacement. In general, the greater your engine’s displacement, the more power it can create. Lower displacement may result in greater fuel economy.
