What are artifact creatures?
Artifact creatures are both artifacts and creatures and therefore the rules for both apply to them. In most settings they are colorless, but occasionally they are either colored or strongly affiliated with a color. In the beginning artifact creatures didn’t have a creature type, but that slowly changed.
Do artifact creatures count as colorless?
Most artifacts have no colored mana symbols in their mana costs, and are therefore colorless. However, there is no correlation between being colorless and being an artifact: artifacts may be colored, and colorless objects may be card types other than artifact.
Can artifact creatures die?
If you block with it, and the creature is dealt enough damage to die, it’ll die. It won’t matter if you only control 2 artifacts after it dies, because it’s already gone, so the metalcraft won’t “turn off” since it isn’t there.
Is an artifact creature a permanent?
There are five permanent types: artifact, creature, enchantment, land, and planeswalker. Instant and sorcery cards can’t enter the battlefield and thus can’t be permanents. See section 3, “Card Types.” 110.4a The term “permanent card” is used to refer to a card that could be put onto the battlefield.
Is artifact a creature type?
‘Artifact’ is a type, not a subtype. When an effect has you choose a subtype, like a creature subtype, you cannot choose artifact. This also applies to effects that depend on or apply to specific creature subtypes.
Are artifacts colored?
Artifacts have no characteristics specific to their card type. Most artifacts have no colored mana symbols in their mana costs, and are therefore colorless.
Is an artifact a mono color?
Artifact creatures are colorless and colorless is an absence of color. Therefore, they are not monocolored.
Do artifacts stay on the battlefield?
Artifact creatures behave just like other creatures in that they can’t attack or use abilities the turn they hit the battlefield, unless they have haste. An Equipment stays on the battlefield when not attached to a creature.
Is an artifact creature a non-creature spell?
Instants, sorceries, enchantments, planeswalkers, and artifacts are all non-creature spells (as long as they are not ALSO creatures, e.g., an artifact creature like [[Snare Thopter]].)
Can I choose artifact as a creature type?
No, you can’t, because “artifact” is not a creature type, it’s a card type. When a card says “creature type,” it effectively means “subtype of a card which has ‘Creature’ or ‘Tribal’ as a type.” In other words, the creature type is always a subtype, something that must appear after the dash.
