Where is Opus 40?
Opus 40, is tucked in the backwoods of Saugerties, not far from Woodstock. Our visits to the mountains would make us bypass it every time. But as chance would have it, we went. Sculptures here are not colorful, but they are certainly rich in imagination. When I saw the landscape at Opus 40, I was speechless.
What techniques did Harvey Fite use in Opus 40?
He used ancient Mayan techniques (among others) to create Opus 40’s curved and sloping walkways, terraces, and platforms, using local stone. Opus 40 sometimes gets billed as a “sculpture park,” and there are some of Harvey Fite’s sculptures there, but the truth is, the park itself is the sculpture.

Opus 40 is huge- has several interesting stations within the exterior. For one, you’ll find the Monolith structure that stands 13′ as their main focal point. With surrounding bridges, paths and walkways, a museum showcasing all his tools and the Gallery.
