Can you use ITBs with a turbo?
Yes you can fit throttle bodies and a turbo, but the gains of bodies over using an inlet plenum are not that big enough to justify doing so on a forced induction lump…
What is an ITB manifold?
Your average new car has a throttle body and an intake manifold. The engine sucks in air through the air filter before it passes through the open throttle body and into the manifold. This is referred to an ITB or Individual Throttle Body setup.
Does ITB increase horsepower?
Aside from a snappier throttle response, one of the main benefits of running ITBs is the additional horsepower that can be gained with them as more air is able to enter the engine at a quicker rate due to the air inlets being placed on each cylinder.
How much horsepower do throttle bodies add?
Gains from a throttle body can be dependent on modifications. Generally speaking, anytime a throttle body is added, there will be some added horsepower. The amounts can range from 5-25 HP depending on what other modifications are done to the engine.
Does a throttle body spacer do anything?
The throttle body spacer permits more air than usual to go into the engine. Thus, the engine does not have to work as hard in order to get the correct amount of air into the combustion chamber. One of the main benefits of a throttle body spacer is an increase in horsepower.
Why no ITB’s on turbochargers?
This being due to the fact that ITB’s are usually accompanied by intake “trumpets” which would not allow for a seal between the turbocharger compressor outlet and the intake ports of the engine. This would not allow you to build boost.
Do ITB’s improve response to throttle inputs?
Ludo hit the nail on the head for sure. The marketing hype around itb’s is that they will offer improved response to throttle inputs. My own experience suggests this is probably marginal or at least any improvement is probably difficult to really notice unless you’re a professional driver.
Is the intercooler manifold compatible with right hand drive cars?
This manifold tucks your turbocharger low, nearly to the subframe, this leads to an incompatibility with right hand drive cars due to the steering shaft location. The Intercooler is a full bar and plate, offset turbulator intercooler with high fin density.
What is the manifold made of?
The Manifold is FULL stainless steel with a massive 1/2″ thick 3D CNC’d flange. Just like our NA/NB kits, to keep a track record of ZERO failures, each runner is precision cut Schedule Stainless material so you don’t ever need to worry about fatigue or cracking.
