What is a K valve?
“K” valves are the simplest of all valves, and are found on most modern cylinders. These valves fit regulators with yoke attachments. The o-ring on a “K” valve is expanded by air pressure, and this expansion creates the seal between the regulator and valve.
Can you use a DIN regulator on a yoke cylinder valve?
There are multiple options for how to use a DIN regulator on a yoke cylinder valve. These simply screw onto the DIN opening and then extend it into an a-clamp style, allowing it to be screwed onto a yoke valve.
What kind of valve is on a scuba tank?
A scuba cylinder valve or pillar valve is a high pressure manually operated screw-down shut off valve fitted to the neck of a scuba cylinder to control breathing gas flow to and from the pressure vessel and to provide a connection with the scuba regulator or filling whip.
Where are DIN valves used?
tanks
DIN valves are used on tanks with services pressures over 3000 psi. As you may have guessed, these specialized DIN valves use DIN attachments to connect to regulators. You can tell a DIN valve just by looking at it as its hole connection is wider and doesn’t have an O-ring on it.
What is in scuba tank air?
While it is true that the air in the tank is partly comprised of oxygen, it is not usually more than is naturally occurring in the air we all breathe, which is about 21%. The majority of that air is nitrogen, coming in at about 78%, and the remainder is a mix of argon, carbon dioxide, neon, and helium, to name a few.
What is a regulator in scuba diving?
In scuba diving a regulator is an essential piece of equipment that regulates the pressurized air from the tank and converts is into breathable air. Air tanks store air in a high pressure situation and this means you cannot breathe straight from the tank.
Does a DIN valve have an O-ring?
DIN regulators have the o-ring incorporated into the regulator instead of the tank valve. The location of the o-ring in the DIN system is superior.

Why is helium used in scuba diving?
The main reason for adding helium to the breathing mix is to reduce the proportions of nitrogen and oxygen below those of air, to allow the gas mix to be breathed safely on deep dives. Helium has very little narcotic effect. A lower proportion of oxygen reduces the risk of oxygen toxicity on deep dives.
