Toon Link, also known as Wind Waker Link or Cel-Shaded Link, is a character in The Legend of Zelda series, particularly The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker as well as many Legend of Zelda games after it. The character is a different incarnation of Link than previous ones before and after him.

Is Toon Link better than Link?
Link and Toon Link play much much differently. Toon Link relies on his aerials, projectiles, and throws more while Link is a better ground fighter and has more attack range. Link, however, suffers from pretty bad offstage game.
Why does Toon link exist?
Wind Waker Link is Toon Link because he’s a descendant of the hero from Minish Cap and Four Swords. In the Adult timeline, Link returns to his childhood self with the knowledge of Ganondorf, leaving this timeline without a Link. Meaning he never reproduced, and esentially no longer exists.

For me, this always kind of annoyed me, because Toon Link is not a child. The Wind Waker takes place on the adult time line, so from the perspectives of the people within that game, the Hero of Time was an adult.
