What are the pros and cons of UVic over UBC?
The earth and ocean science, geography, astronomy, and writing departments at UVic are all first class though. On the other hand, UBC has lots of strengths in those areas too. The city/surrounding environment has been the deciding factor for a lot of people I know. Going to a smaller school has tons of pros and cons versus going to a bigger school.

UVIC is easy as hell to get into and from what I hear from friends who go there, it’s a bigger party school than UBC. A lot more coke sniffers and pill poppers. ehh, I’ve met some hella sketchy people from UBC and some super brilliant people from UVic.

More importantly, it is certainly recognized by the big tech companies who you’d want to be working for as they have all hired full-time employees who are UVic grads. While you would certainly get a great education doing CENG with a Software option at UBC, you will have more of a hardware focus in your education.
