Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) is a chemical regulation that seeks to protect human health, ecosystems and the environment whilst maintaining worldwide trade. The biggest difference is that CLP is the implementation of a world standard (GHS) within the EU.

Why is CLP important?

One of the main aims of CLP is to determine whether a substance or mixture displays properties that lead to a hazardous classification. In addition to the communication of hazards through labelling requirements, CLP is also the basis for many legislative provisions on the risk management of chemicals.

How does clclp affect GHS?

CLP does not directly affect GHS, although the EU did lobby for hazards to the ozone layer category 1, H420, Harms public health and the environment by destroying ozone in the upper atmosphere, to be brought into GHS.
