Is the keystone test hard?
The exams are extremely difficult and confusing for students of any level. It is suspected that 50 to 70 percent of the students who took the Biology Keystone Exam will not meet the state requirements and have to retake the Exam later. Only 38.7 percent of students got proficient or advanced.

How many questions are on the Keystone exams?
The Algebra and Literature tests have 23 multiple-choice questions and four open-ended response questions in each module. The Biology test has 32 multiple-choice questions and four open-ended questions.
What happens if I fail the Keystone exams?
If I fail the Keystone Exam, can I graduate? No. You will need to participate in a program of remediation and retake the Keystone Exam and can continue to do so up to your junior year in high school. After your junior year, if you have still not passed the Keystone Exam you will need to do a Keystone Project.

Is the Keystone Exam timed?
The exams are not timed, meaning that students may take as much time as they need to complete the exam. In general, most students need about 1-1.5 hours to complete each module, or 2-3 hours per test. Keystone exams are offered in the Winter, Spring, and Summer.
Are Keystone Exams a graduation requirement?
Keystone Exams are only a graduation requirement for the Class of 2023 (current 10th graders) and beyond. Students in the class of 2023 and beyond who opt-out of the Keystones this year will have to take the assessment later or complete Alternate Pathways to fulfill the graduation requirement. Q.
