How do I get to Yester Castle?
You can walk to the castle by following the river from Gifford, or you can access it from the Castle Park Golf Club – follow the perimeter of the golf course, keeping the dyke to your right. You’ll have to cross a potentially boggy bit before reaching a hillier section.

History Yester Castle was originally built by Hugo de Giffard during the late twelfth century. He was a Norman who was part of the retinue of Ada – daughter of William de Warenne, Second Earl of Surrey – when she came north to marry Prince Henry, son to David I of Scotland.
Where is Yester House?
‘Yester’ is marked on Blaeu’s map of The Lothians, then ‘Yester C.’ on Adair’s map of East Lothian, by when what is now Yester House had become the main seat of the property. The lands were a property of the Giffords in the 12th century.
