Are SwissStop pads worth it?
SwissStop have long been known for excellent after market brake pads – for road, mountain and cyclocross. The compound is also unique, and SwissStop’s own testing shows less wear, and lower temperatures than their competition.
Do you need Exalith brake pads?
Exalith rims require special brake pads — regular pads will be eaten alive by the hard grooved surface (as I found out, see below). Since the Exalith is just a coating, it is possible to damage it and have the aluminum rim underneath show through.
Can you use aluminum brake pads on carbon rims?
In short yes you can, carbon brake pads will stop you but you shouldn’t. Firstly the brake pads will not be as effective on the alu rims.
Can you use any carbon brake pads?
Carbon-specific pads are much softer than normal brakepads and will not wear into the rim. It’s very important that you use only carbon-specific brakepads on these rims. Using different pads will effect how the brakes feel through the brake lever as well as effecting performance in both wet and dry conditions.
What is the difference between L02A and L03A brake pads?
Original Ice-Tech brake pads with cooling fins for SHIMANO Flatmount brake calipers. The organic L03A brake pads stand out for even and quiet braking as well as great modulation. Compared to the predecessor model L02A, SHIMANO was able to improve the wear resistance by up to 40%.
Do carbon rims need special brake pads?
Most importantly, only use brake pads suitable for carbon wheels. We recommend to only brake pads made by, or recommended by, the wheel manufacturer. Carbon brake pads usually wear out faster than conventional brake pads.
Can I use any brake pad for exexalith?
Exalith is a Mavic ceramic coat, which is much harder than bare aluminium alloy. It therefore requires a matching brake pad. You can use any other pad, but you might have issues with premature pad wear, squeaking/squealing and possibly lower braking performance.
What’s so good about exalith rims?
The Exalith coating is tightly bound to the underlying aluminium and will not peel or flake off. The result of this is that, even in dirty, sandy conditions the good looks will be retained and Exalith rims should last significantly longer than ordinary aluminium rims. Bought a pair Cosmic SLRs off a clubmate, the ones with the Exalith brake track.
What is the exalith treatment?
The Exalith treatment is most accurately described as a “surface conversion” treatment rather than a coating. The process converts the surface of the existing aluminium into a thin ceramic layer that is very hard, very wear resistant, thermally stable and very resistant to corrosion.
Can I use any brake pads for brake job?
You can use any other pad, but you might have issues with premature pad wear, squeaking/squealing and possibly lower braking performance. If you spend extra for a superior brake track, t’s worth matching it with the best pad for the job (assuming that’s the Mavic’s one).
