Why was Trentham Hall demolished?
There is a long history of construction, redesigning and demolition of Trentham Hall, starting in 1086, leading up to 1912 when demolition began on the decaying hall. The river became so polluted from the booming industrial activity up-stream that the Estate became undesirable and it began to decline.

Do you have to pay to get into Trentham Shopping Village?
No charge to enter the shopping village. No you can go into the shopping village without paying to view the Trentham Gardens.
Can you walk around Trentham Gardens?
The totally free Monument Walk, Trentham makes the perfect compromise. This one is around two and a half miles and took us less than an hour. There are a few steep hills to navigate but the views from the top are so worth it.

Trentham was acquired by St. Modwen in 1996. Investing £100 million in regeneration to transform and bring listed gardens and buildings back to life.
What happened Trentham Estate?
In the 1980s the Sutherlands sold Trentham Estate to John Broome who planned to create a holiday centre with lodges. Unable to gain planning consent a Camping and Caravan Park was created across the Deer Lawns of the West Park with the addition of roadways and facilities.
When was Trentham Gardens opened?

In 1910 the gardens were opened to the public and by 1925 the addition of motor launches, rowing boats and a miniature railway were added. In 1931 Trentham Gardens Ltd was formed to manage the gardens, with a lido and ballroom added to its attractions.
Do you still have to book to go into Trentham Gardens?
Do members have to pre-book? No, members will now be able to visit without pre-booking and are advised to bring a valid membership card to gain access. However, you can still pre-book garden admission here.
