How do I become a SAS officer?
- Get the A’ level qualifications, that you need to enter officer training at Sandhurst, or preferably a degree.
- Pass the Officer Selection Board.
- Attend and pass The Parachute Regiment POIC (Potential Officet Insight Course)
- Complete the 44 week officer training course at Sandhurst in the top 2.5%
Do SAS officers have to pass selection?
‘Selection’ or, more correctly, the ‘Special Forces Aptitude Test’, applies to the regular Army unit — 22 SAS — and the reservists in the Territorial Army. It is also the basic course that volunteers for the Special Boat Service must pass. There is great debate among armchair SAS watchers over which is hardest.
What happens after officer week in the SAS?
Once Officer Week finishes they rejoin the training stream for all the continuation, SERE etc (see my orger answers on SAS selection and training for details). On completion of training they will be posted as a Troop Commander with an experienced SAS Seargeant as able assistant.
Where does SAS training take place?
Training takes place in Belize, in the heart of deep jungles. Candidates learn the basics of surviving and patrolling in the harsh conditions. SAS jungle patrols have to live for weeks behind enemy lines, in 4 man patrols, living on rations.
How do you become an officer in the SAS?
The other way of becoming an officer in the SAS is to join as a trooper and stay long enough to be accepted into the SAS “permanent cadre”. The majority of SAS soldiers are on temporary assignment and can be returned to unit at any time.
Who are the 21 SAS and 23 SAS regiments?
The 21 SAS and 23 SAS Regiments are garrisoned by civilian volunteers who have undergone rigorous SAS selection and training. They are led by senior officers and non-commissioned officers coming from the active-duty 22 SAS Regiment.
