How good is Ddrescue?
GNU ddrescue is fast and reliable: it skips bad blocks and copies the good blocks, and then comes back to try copying the bad blocks, tracking their location with a simple logfile.
What does ddrescue do?
GNU ddrescue is a data recovery tool. It copies data from one file or block device (hard disc, cdrom, etc) to another, trying to rescue the good parts first in case of read errors. So, every time you run it on the same output file, it tries to fill in the gaps without wiping out the data already rescued.
How do you use DD rescue?
Force ddrescue to run even if the destination file already exists. Skip the splitting phase to avoid spending a lot of time trying to rescue the most difficult parts of a file. Use direct access to the drive and skip any cache. Try N times to rescue the block.
Can you stop ddrescue?
It copies data from one file or block device (hard disc, cdrom, etc) to another, trying to rescue the good parts first in case of read errors. The basic operation of ddrescue is fully automatic. That is, you don’t have to wait for an error, stop the program, restart it from a new position, etc.
