Will UHF antenna pick up VHF?
Most UHF antennas will receive VHF signals, practically by accident. It just so happens that the size of the antenna will be a fairly close match to some VHF channels. Most UHF antennas don’t have filters to prevent them from sending VHF signals to your TV, either.
What is the difference between a VHF antenna and a UHF antenna?
An outdoor UHF antenna has short elements, just a few inches wide, and they’re usually arranged in parallel rows of straight prongs. An outdoor VHF antenna has longer elements, arranged in an easy-to-remember V-shaped pattern.
Do amplified antennas work better?
But our tests showed amplified antennas weren’t always more effective than nonamplified models—they can also amplify noise and distortion, and overload reception from closer stations. If you have an amplified antenna, try it with the amplifier turned off. If reception is good, leave it off.
