The Atsion Family Camp is the only camping area that is currently open for camping in Wharton State Forest. When making a reservation for the Atsion Family Camp please be aware there is a two night minimum. All Primitive campsites are currently closed due to COVID-19.

Yes, you can sleep in your car. Delaware has no rules against sleeping in vehicles while at a rest area. The State would expects drowsy drivers to sleep at their rest area before continuing driving.
Can you park overnight at the Delaware Water Gap?
If you are going to park your car overnight in any of the Delaware river or Appalachian Trail (AT) access parking lots for authorized activities such as Appalachian Trail overnight camping, or river trips lasting more than one day, you must register personal information with the park Emergency Operations office.

Is Dingmans Falls open now?
The view of the roaring waters is worth breaking a sweat! The Dingmans Falls Visitor Center also offers educational exhibits and guided waterfall walks in season. The center is open from late May through late October, but the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area is open year-round.
Why is the Delaware Water Gap called that?
A water gap is a geological feature where a river cuts through a mountain ridge. During this period, the Delaware River slowly cut its path down through the shattered and cracked quartzite. If the quartzite had not been cracked, the river would not have been able to cut its path through the mountain to form the gap.
