What is a bound placket?

Another placket demonstration! Today, it’s the placket on the Oakridge Blouse. This type of placket is called a continuous bound placket, since it’s made from one piece of fabric and it’s bound around the opening. One is good if you want your fabric to show, one is good if you want the placket to be barely noticeable.

What is a zip placket?

Lapped zippers are often found on skirts at the waistband. Remember to always keep the needle positioned between the zipper foot and the zipper teeth when sewing. NOTE: Throughout this tutorial, the term “placket” will be used. A placket is the fabric that surrounds and reinforces fasteners in a garment.

How do you sew sleeve cuffs?

  1. Cut Two Pieces of Fabric.
  2. Cut a Slit on Both Pattern Piece.
  3. Put the pattern piece and interfacing together.
  4. Sew the top edge of the cuff.
  5. Cut.
  6. Turn right sides out.
  7. Sew along the sides to lock or close.
  8. Sew the sides of the cuff right on the seam allowance.

How do you attach a sleeve to a placket?

Position the placket fabric on top of the sleeve fabric with both wrong sides facing you. Match markings (the slash lines) on sleeve and sleeve placket and pin. Note that the higher column of the placket should be closest to the center of the sleeve and the shorter one – to the side of the sleeve.

How do you sew bound edges?

You’ll need:

  1. Wrap the seam binding around the raw edge, pushing the fabric into the fold as far as it will go. Pin in place.
  2. At the top end, fold under the seam binding as shown.
  3. Take your work to the sewing machine and sew close to edge of binding.
  4. Repeat with the other side.
  5. Look how nice our bound edge looks!

How do you sew bias bound seam?

Version 1: bound together

  1. Stitch the seams together as usual.
  2. Pin the bias binding to the closed seam.
  3. Sew the bias binding. Make sure that the back of the bias tape is being sewn down as you go. Once the seam is finished, press it to one side and you’re done!
