Why do we celebrate Republic Day in India?
The Constitution of India, which was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on November 26, 1949, came into effect on January 26, 1950. While India’s Independence Day celebrates its freedom from British Rule, the Republic Day celebrates the coming into force of its constitution.
Why India is called a republic?
India is called a republic as the representatives are elected by the people of the country. The representatives elected by citizens have the power to take decisions on our behalf. However, if we begin to consider 15th August 1947 as the first day of independence, then we will celebrate this year as the 75th Independence Day.

What is the real meaning of republic?
