Remould tyres, also known simply as retread tyres, regrooved tyres, retreads or remoulds, are used tyres which get remanufactured in such a way that their worn tread is replaced with a new tread without changing their structure.
Are retread tires illegal?
In reality, there are no states that ban the use of retreaded tires on vehicles of any type. By misinterpreting this law, a lot of people think that retreaded tires are illegal on the front, steering tires of all vehicles. When in fact, there is only one specific vehicle that is not allowed to use retreaded tires.
At what tread depth should you replace your tires?

Remoulds are still legal in the UK, as long as they comply with strict regulations, and if manufactured with care they needn’t be significantly less safe than new tyres.
Are remould tyres illegal?
All remoulded tyres that follow these standards should be marked with an “e”. It is now illegal to sell any retreaded tyres without the “e” mark on them. As long as you buy remoulded tyres that have gone through the relevant testing and have been marked with the obligatory “e”, there should be no danger in using them.
