Who keeps Togepi?
The Egg Ash found a while back hatches into a Togepi. Ash, Misty, Brock, and Meowth decide to have a tournament to see who will keep Togepi. Brock’s Onix is revealed to know Rock Throw. Ash wins the tournament, but Togepi chooses to go with Misty instead.
What happened to Togapi?
Instead Togepi is knocked out by Hansen’s Shedinja and Ninjask. Misty and everyone else are transported back to the Mirage Kingdom. The other Togepi suddenly emerge from the Togepi Paradise and and channel their energy into Misty’s Togepi, using Safeguard to protect everyone. Misty’s Togepi evolves into a Togetic.

It hatches into a Togepi in “Who Gets to Keep Togepi?”, and since Misty is the first thing the baby Pokémon sees, it believes Misty is its mother due to filial imprinting, thus anticipating Togepi’s connection with birds, which becomes clearer in the evolved forms Togetic and Togekiss.
Does Ash keep Togepi?
Although Ash technically won the right to have Togepi as his, Togepi ends up going to Misty instead.
Why did Misty get Togepi?
Togepi imprinted on Misty because she was holding the egg when it hatched and she was the first thing Togepi saw. This made Togepi think Misty was its mother and he wouldn’t go to anyone else although Ash later won a battle to own it. The battle was for nought.
