What Is Genital Condyloma? Genital condyloma, also known as genital warts, is a sexually transmitted disease caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). There are dozens of strains of HPV that can cause warts and other conditions.
What is vulvar condylomata?
Condyloma acuminata (genital warts) is a sexually transmitted infection that causes small, skin-colored or pink growths on the labia, at the opening of the vagina, or around or inside the anus. Genital warts are the most common sexually transmitted infection in the United States.
Can high risk HPV cause condyloma?
About 90% of genital warts are caused by HPV 6 and 11 [3]. Our case is unusual in that HPV-16 which is considered high-risk type for carcinogenesis was found to cause condyloma acuminata.
Can a woman fight HPV?
There is no cure for the virus itself, but many HPV infections go away on their own. In fact, about 70 to 90 percent of cases of HPV infection are cleared from the body by the immune system. When treatment is needed, the goal is to relieve symptoms by removing any visible warts and abnormal cells in the cervix.
What causes a vulvar lesion?
Vulvar ulcers occur due to inflammation that causes tissue death. Both non-infectious and infectious conditions can cause vulvar ulcers. Vulvar ulcers usually develop in response to STIs and often contain infective fluids or blood.
Can condyloma be removed?
When the warts are just on the outer skin they may be able to be treated with a variety of medications applied in the office or at home. However, once the warts extend into the anal canal they need to be removed surgically. In most cases, a single treatment will not cure anal warts.
Can condyloma Acuminatum be cured?
There is no cure for genital warts. The goal of treatment is to remove visible warts and decrease the risk of spreading the virus. There are many different treatments that your doctor may recommend, none of which are 100% effective. Most treatment types will get rid of the warts in 60–90% of cases, however.
