Why is Bonjela bad for you?
The active ingredient in Bonjela is choline salicylate, which can be very harmful to babies if too much is given. It can cause salicylate poisoning.
Is Iglu same as Bonjela?
There are a number of brand names, including Bonjela, Anbesol, Iglu, Calgel and Covonia.
What happened to Bonjela?
While the gels such as Bonjela, Dentinox and Anbesol are widely used by mums and dads, they’ll no longer be available in shops and supermarkets. That’s because the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) says pharmacists are best placed to offer guidance and support on teething.
When should you not use Bonjela?

- Children and adolescents under 16 years of age.
- People with an active stomach ulcer.
- People who are allergic to salicylates, eg aspirin.
- People who are allergic to any other ingredient of the gel.
How long does it take for Bonjela to work?
Bonjela Cool Mint Gel has a sugar free, cool mint flavour formula for adults over the age of 16. The formula also provides pain relief from mouth ulcers within three minutes of use.
Can you give Panadol and Bonjela at the same time?
Don’t use Bonjela teething gel alongside other products containing lidocaine. It’s fine to use it with painkillers such as ibuprofen or paracetamol.

How many times a day can you use Bonjela?
Apply the product as often as necessary up to 4 times a day, preferably before meals, until the mouth ulcer is healing (3 to 5 days). Never scratch off the film once formed; it will disappear by itself. So long as the film remains visible, it is not necessary to reapply.
How do you apply Bonjela effectively?
Using a clean finger apply approximately half an inch (1cm) of the gel to the affected area and rub in gently. Repeat every 3 hours if necessary. The gel has a shelf life of 2 years, but should not be used after the expiry date on the tube.
Is Bonjela for sore gums?
We don’t recommend use of corsodyl for more than 7-10 days as it will stain your teeth! But that’s something Sally can sort out for you when we get back! Otherwise use Bonjela or Iglu. You can also purchase Corsodyl gel over the counter at the pharmacy and that is really helpful for sore gums or ulcers.
