How long should confession?
Often five or ten minutes is enough, but for a person with a lot of sins to confess, or struggling with their sinfulness, it may take a half hour, a full hour, or more. The point is not how long it should be—but what sins you have burdening you, and how much you need to let God take that burden off of you.
When can you confess your sins?
In confession, all mortal sins are required to be confessed in order for a confession to be valid and for God to forgive your sins. Venial sins are not required to be confessed, but it is strongly recommended you do so. Venial sins are automatically forgiven after attending mass.
