What is the purpose of iCivics?
We champion equitable, non-partisan civic education so that the practice of democracy is learned by each new generation. We work to inspire life-long civic engagement by providing high-quality and engaging civics resources to teachers and students across our nation.
How much is iCivics?
It is the largest provider of civic education content in the US and is currently used by more than 120,500 educators and 7.6 million students annually. All of its games are free, nonpartisan, and available at www.icivics.org.
How do students join iCivics?
Go to “My iCivics” Click “Classes” Select “Join A Class” on the right. Type in the class code given when the class was created (located on the teacher’s account under Classes > Class Code in white on the dashboard)
What grade level is iCivics for?
iCivics games are designed with middle and high school students in mind, but they have been used with success by students from 3rd grade all the way through community college. Likewise, our lesson plans and digital literacy tools are also geared toward students in grades 6-12.
Is iCivics a nonprofit?
As a nonprofit enterprise, iCivics is fortunate to receive generous financial support from numerous individuals, corporations, and foundations. Donations and grants help us develop and disseminate effective, compelling, and free resources for civic education, nationwide.

iCivics was founded in 2009 by retired Supreme Court of the United States Justice Sandra Day O’Connor.
How do students access iCivics?
Login. Go to “My iCivics” Click “Classes” Select “Join A Class” on the right….Then have students follow these directions:
- Go to iCivics.org/register.
- Enter the class code and complete the form.
- Enter a password and click “FINISH”.
How do students join a class on iCivics?
Have your students go to www.icivics.org, and click on the “Join iCivics” button in the top right corner. 2. Instruct them to select “Student” and enter their information as you did when you set up your account. On the registration page, students should enter your Class Code.
Is an iCivics account free?
All iCivics accounts are free and take only a few minutes to set up! A teacher account provides access to our teach page, which houses all of our curriculum units, state standards-aligned lesson plans, and digital resources.
