Some people are easy going while others are hotheads; you can expect a mix on any farm crew. At the end of the day you’ll usually work things out and be laughing over an after work beer. Depending on how long you work on an organic farm, you can also expect to have moments where you question why you’re doing this.

Can you make money woofing?

No! WWOOF is a mutual exchange! Any member who joins WWOOF will not be receiving any salary or daily allowances during the exchange. Receiving payment for work done on a volunteer exchange jeopardizes the host and the entire WWOOF program as stringent laws must be followed when hiring an “employee”.

Can farming be a career choice?

Policy intervention focused on making agriculture an economically-viable source of livelihood for farmers requires sustainable and equitable resource-use, coupled with gainful non-farm job opportunities with better working conditions. Reviving farming as a career is clearly a long-drawn process.

Is Wwoof real?

The WWOOF organization is built on trust and is self-monitoring. Both WWOOFers and Hosts report if other Hosts (or WWOOFers) are not what they proclaim to be. WWOOF then investigates and determines if the host (or WWOOFer) should be removed from the program.

Do you have to pay to Wwoof?

The short answer is ‘no, you don’t get paid to WWOOF. ‘ The whole point of the WWOOF organization is to link volunteers with organic farms. The critical word there being, of course, ‘volunteers’. Volunteers should expect to work between 4-6 hours each day for five days a week in exchange for room and board.

If you’re looking for a short term, volunteer position, or if you want to work on an organic farm outside of the United States, Worldwide Opportunities for Organic Farms (WWOOF) is your best bet. WWOOF is a member based organization that requires a $40 membership fee per country you join.

What is it like to be a host farm volunteer?

As a volunteer (or WWOOFer as we call them) you will live alongside your host helping with daily tasks and experiencing life as a farmer. As a host farm you will open your home to receive visitors from your own country or abroad who want to connect with the land and support the organic movement.

Why work on a farm?

Interesting, cool, and smart people are drawn to this kind of work, whether they work on the farm with you, visit the farmer’s market you sell at, or are activists supporting the work you’re doing. You work side by side every day and really get to know and care for each other. And that’s when you go sing kumbaya around the campfire.

Do farm interns get to eat the food?

Like any job, more experience means more money. Any worthwhile farm internship will at least offer you food from the farm. If you’re putting in the work to make it grow you should at least get to eat some of it. There is a lot of food waste in organic farming and farm interns are the dumpsters.
