What pressure should oxygen and acetylene be set at for brazing copper?
Oxygen and acetylene should be set at equal delivery amounts depending on the size and mass of the object being brazed. This would translate into 5 psi oxygen and 5 psi acetylene. These pressures are delivery pressures that must be set as the gas is flowing from the torch tip.
Can you weld copper with oxy acetylene?
5 Welding of Pure Copper Fusion welding of copper with the oxy-acetylene torch is made difficult by two properties of copper: its exceptionally high heat conductivity and its high coefficient of expansion. Arc welding is used for fusion welding copper in must situations, since the arc is much hotter than the flame.
What gas is used for brazing copper?
-acetylene gases
For most brazing jobs using oxygen-acetylene gases, a carburizing or neutral flame should be used. The neutral flame has a well-defined inner cone See diagram. Avoid an oxidizing flame. Excess acetylene removes surface oxides from the copper.
Do you turn on oxygen or acetylene first?
We recommend closing the oxygen valve first whenever turning off an oxy-fuel torch system especially when Acetylene is fuel.
Can I use MAPP gas to braze copper?
We use MAPP gas with a shield attached it is quite good up to 7/8 copper tube only and the braze joint needs to be away from any large mass of metal as the heat can be drawn away just as fast as you apply it.
Do you need flux for brazing copper?
Remember that copper to copper brazing does not require a flux. Here are a few common combinations: Using Stay-Brite® Solder – Stay-Clean® Soldering Fluxes.
Does MAPP gas braze copper?
What is the best torch for brazing?
Oxy/acetylene torches are the most common type of brazing torch and are often the most economical to operate. Oxy/acetylene brazing torches are among the most versatile and are usually the type found in home garages.
How do you set up an acetylene torch?
Turn the valve on the acetylene tank counterclockwise a quarter turn to open. Adjust the acetylene regulator until the small gauge on the regulator registers 10 psi. Open the oxygen valve on the torch handle completely by turning counterclockwise until it stops. Slightly open the oxygen valve on the cutting torch.
How to use oxy acetylene torch?
To create the flame, open the valve of acetylene. It should be half-turn.
What is the pressure of acetylene?
Both oxygen and acetylene gases are stored under pressure. The average pressure in an oxygen tank at room temperature (70°F / 21°C) is about 2200 PSI when full. The average pressure in an acetylene tank under the same conditions is about 250 PSI.
