From 1983 to 1987, MTH marketed the reproduction trains on its own. Before the end of 1987, MTH became a Lionel subcontractor, allowing MTH’s Lionel reproductions to bear the Lionel name and be marketed by Lionel itself. You can run both LionChief and LionChief Plus trains on the same layout, as both systems rely on a constant 18 volts on the track to operate. As you have seen, running conventional powered trains along with LionChief/Plus on the same track does not work properly.
What type of transformer do I need to run the lionchiefplus?
You CAN run the LionChiefPlus using the handles of your trusty transformer though. LionChief Plus has been said to work on either AC or DC 18V. Specifically, you can use the wall transformer that comes with a LionChief set, or a traditional AC transformer.
Does the RS-3 LionChief Plus work in reverse?
I’ve the RS-3 Lionchief Plus, delivered today, and it has the exact, same problem. It works in reverse, but jerks, hesitates, and sometimes stops in forward. The lights flicker in forward, but are steady in reverse.
