What is the supervision army?
The Supervision Army (監察軍, Kansatsu Gun) were groups of Protoculture and Zentradi brainwashed by the Protodeviln to fight the Stellar Republic over 500,000 years ago. The Supervision Army remained the sworn enemies of the Zentradi, who made their extermination top priority.

What is the Protoculture?
In physical anthropology, protoculture is the passing of behaviours from one generation to another among non-human primates. These cultures are very rudimentary, and do not exhibit complex cultural technology. For example, tool usage is learned between generations within chimpanzee troupes.
What’s the difference between Robotech and Macross?
However, the biggest difference between Robotech and Macross is the concept of Protoculture. That explains why we never saw that ship on Robotech. Also, in the original, the SDF-1 (Super Dimensional Fortress) was simply known as Macross (hence the name of the anime).
