Can I use LS oil in the rear diff?
As far as I know the LS component won’t harm the front diff, but definitely must not be used where you have brass components such as a gearbox with syncro bands as the LS additive attacks brass. I wouldn’t mix oils for the rear with the much higher use. I have run LS90 in the rear for a while and then changed out when I could get the heavier oil.
Why is there a difference in oil capacity between front diffs?
As for the reason for the difference in oil capacity. Technically, the “Hypoid offset” of pinion height on the front diff is “above centre” or which is known here as a high pinion. For this reason the pinion bearings & contact of the gear set is higher thus requiring more oil to accomodate this.
How much oil does a LSD diff take?
Rear LSD diff takes 2.1 litres. Do not over fill. Thoroughly drain used oil when at operating temperature. Check used oil is not contaminated especially with water, it will be a green colour and have an odd smell if it is. If contaminated determine and rectify cause. Refill ensuring vehicle is level to top of filler hole.
How do you fill up your diff with oil?
Tried it the other day when refilling diffs, pour your oil in, pump it up, put nozzle into filler hole then squeeze the trigger. Yes it is a little bit slow, but not to bad, but te best thing is, NO MESS.
