Does BT second box need an aerial?
You’ll need a wired internet connection and an aerial connection for your second YouViewbox. This is because the Freeview channels are transmitted via and aerial, but the premium channels, including Sky Atlantic, are transmitted via your internet connection.
Can I use my old BT Vision box for Freeview?
It will work as a normal YouView box, without the BT content. You can record FreeView as normal.

Can you transfer recordings from one BT Vision box to another?
The boxes are designed not to allow you to transfer the recordings off to another device. The only option is to record the analogue signal off the SCART socket as suggested above. That is unless you want to take the hard disk out and fathom out what proprietary, non-standard format they use to store the recordings.
