New York City Fire Department Rescue Company 1, also known as Rescue 1, is one of five specialized rescue companies of the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) that responds to rescue operations that require specialized equipment and training. It was organized on March 8, 1915.
What is the difference between FDNY Squad and rescue?
In the FDNY, the Rescue Companies use typical heavy rescue apparatus, with no pumping capabilities and no compliment of ground ladders. Squad Companies in the FDNY use Engine style apparatus but also carry specialized equipment. These companies serve dual purposes.
What is the difference between squad engine and truck?
(The squad is the “carry all” for fire scenes. It has a lot of extra material and equipment for other emergency action from fire ground support to rescue operations to scene clean up.) The main difference between the truck and the engine is usually cited as being that the truck is the rig with the big ladder.
