Are there toilets at Curbar edge?
There are no public toilets or facilities available at the start of the walk at Curbar, but you might be lucky enough to spot an ice-cream van in summer or there’s a coffee van at weekends called Jolly’s – they have cakes too!
Is Curbar Gap car park free?
Park in the car park at Curbar Gap. At the time of writing you can park for up to 4 hours for £2.60 and all day for £4, or free to disabled badge holders, National Trust and RSPB members. This is another occasion where the path has been laid out already so you just need to decide how you want to use it.

The Curbar Edge walk is of average difficulty, as it passes over rough and steep ground at times. The total distance of the walk is just less than 7 miles, and it is advised to allow between 3-4 hours in order to complete the walk.

Can I go walking in the Peak District Covid?
There are currently no general restrictions on travel to the national park from within the UK, but we continue to ask visitors to consider the following to allow their visit and that of others to be safe and enjoyable: walk or cycle where possible to minimise car use within the Peak District.
Are the public toilets open in Matlock Bath?
Matlock Bath Pavilion is open Monday to Sunday 24 hours a day has no baby changing facilities but has a disabled toilet.
What is there to do around Curbar Edge?
Curbar Edge is a brilliant, lofty viewpoint, heather clad in autumn, and a favourite haunt for rock climbers and hang gliders. There is a riding stable offering pony-trekking and south of the village is Cliffe College, a Methodist Church training college and conference centre.

Curbar Ridge provides excellent views of the Derwent valley and the surrounding countryside. The walk begins at Curbar Gap car park with walkers heading towards Curbar Gap along the road until they reach a lay-by.
What is Curbar gap?
Curbar has many quaint little cottages and select houses which are positioned around the old Roman Road that climbs up through the rocks at a point known as Curbar Gap.
How were the edges of the Peak District formed?
The dramatic chain of Edges which flank the eastern boundary of the Peak District National Park were formed by glacial action in the last Ice Age some 20,000 years ago. The old Roman Road through Curbar Gap later became an important packhorse route and provided a safe and accessible pathway through the Edges to Chesterfield.
