Can I stretch my septum with a pincher?
All jewelry for fresh stretches should be single flare, never stretch with double flare jewelry! For septums, there’s two categories of jewelry you’ll be stretching with. If you are stretching standard, single or no flare plugs, pinchers, and circular barbells are going to be the styles you use!

What Size Gauge Are Septum Piercings? While sizes vary based on personal preference, anatomy, and your piercer, septum piercings are typically 16g. However, you may decide to size down to an 18g or stretch larger to a 14g and beyond.
Does stretching your septum make your nose bigger?
The stretching process might alter the appearance of the nose, by changing its shape a little bit. It is not like the ears, which are very obvious when stretched. The initial size for a septum piercing is a 14 gauge ring, in order to stretch this, it must be completely healed.
Can you get pierced with a septum retainer?
Technically yes but I would strongly recommend against it. First, septum piercings are typically done with a septum retainer. As a piece of jewelry it resembles a staple. You can wear it flipped up or down during the healing process, at which point it is replaced with the jewelry you like.
When can you put a septum retainer in?
You shouldn’t remove your new septum piercing for at least 6-8 weeks, but you can make it look more discreet and avoid it getting inflamed during this time. Once you’ve had your piercing for a few months you will be able to wear a retainer ring which you can flip back into your nose to hide the piercing.
Do both balls on a septum ring unscrew?
Thanks for your question! Yes, both of these balls should unscrew. They may have been screwed on too tightly, in which case pliers will help unscrew them.
Is 14G bigger than 16G?
As the numbers go up the size gets smaller. 14 IS thicker than 16. The lower the number, the thicker the gauge so 16g is thinner than a 14g.
