Can you eat British shore crabs?
They are found low down on the shore near the sea. You are not allowed to collect them, as the crab must be allowed to grow big enough for eating. The claws of the Edible Crab are very strong, so it can crush open a mussel or a sea urchin.

It can osmoregulate in dilute seawater, such as the conditions found in estuaries, but in freshwater it will soon die. It osmoregulates with antennal glands, small bladder like organs at the base of the antennae. This allows the crab to penetrate far up the estuary, living in concentrations of only 0.6% salinity.
