Do deaf people want hearing people to learn ASL?
My experience in the Deaf community has been that most Deaf people appreciate hearing people who express interest in, and respect for, their language and culture. Learning someone’s language and expressing a desire to interact with them on an equal basis demonstrates respect for their language and culture.
Does hard of hearing use ASL?
One, deaf and hard of hearing people are by no means “silent” at all. They use sign language, lip-reading, vocalizations, and so on to communicate. Communication is not reserved for hearing people alone, and using one’s voice is not the only way to communicate.
Can hearing teach ASL?
There are a few exceptions, especially with a few codas who are school teachers of deaf children. While we appreciate hearing people learning ASL to communicate with Deaf people, but it’s not for hearing people teaching, singing, or meddling with it.

Now it is not something I am sorry for, hence why I’ve started to just say ‘Hi, me Deaf’. If it is in a place, such as the bank, I normally voice off and sign ‘Deaf’, then write down what I want to say. This way they understand better and usually reply in the same format by writing down their responses.

Don’t talk to the interpreter or hearing person that may be with them. “What’s your friend’s name?” My reply, “how about you ask them yourself?” “Tell them my name is Rude-Face.” Consider it done.

How many signs are there in ASL?
