Do you have to pay to be in the GMC?
All doctors pay a fee to register with us and an annual fee to remain on the register. Other fees may be payable in certain circumstances, which are set out below.

Can I claim tax relief on my GMC fees? Yes. Members of the General Medical Council can claim tax relief on GMC subscriptions. As it is mandatory for all practising medical doctors to have membership and you’ll normally have to pay for it yourself, there is tax relief on 100% of your membership fee.

How do I get a refund from GMC?
If you’re due a refund, we’ll credit it to the card you used to make the original payment. If you made your payment by bankers draft, cheque or cash, we’ll make your refund by cheque.

What is GMC fixed term discount?
Fixed term discount is applied to newly qualified doctors, or doctors moving from provisional registration to full registration. This discounted fee covers the first year of full registration and up to four years of discount on the annual fee.
How do I apply for a GMC online registration?
Log in to your GMC Online account. Click on My Registration. Go to My Applications. Click on Apply. Click on Continue with application. Click on No (click on Yes if you have EC right). Click on No (click on Yes if you want to register as a specialist or a GP). If you have completed an acceptable pattern of internship, click on Yes.
How do I register for GMC after my PLAB 2?
The day after your PLAB 2 result, the GMC will email you to congratulate you and inform you that you can begin your process for GMC registration. Log in to your GMC Online account.
How long does it take to get a GMC reference form?
Employer reference form (only for candidates who have worked without registration). The GMC will give you 28 days, to send these documents. Otherwise, they will close your application and send you a full refund of your application fee. You would then need to start the application process again.
What is the GMC fee discount for doctors?
The GMC will also continue offering a 50% fee discount for doctors whose income is below £32,000 in 2019. This is not available on those fees for newly qualified doctors that have already been discounted.
