Does Cerakote peel off?
Cerakote USA will handle your project with the utmost care and provide the highest quality finish. If by chance the coating on your item does peel, crack, chip or flake off, Cerakote USA’s only obligation under this warranty will be to recoat the item for free.
How long does Cerakote last on guns?
Longevity: 5+ Years. Sometimes when the two are visually compared side by side in the same camouflage pattern, there may be a difference in color saturation. With cerakote, color is applied directly to the surface of the gun, which may slightly alter the tone depending on the color of the surface prior to application.
Can Cerakote be touched up?
(1mL) bottle of Cerakote (a part B catalyst is included with some as not all colors are air cure) to touch up any marks or scratches on your parts during assembly. This eliminates the need for hardner and allows you to reuse the same bottle as often as needed until empty.

We recommend, but do not require, that the metal parts are placed in an oven at 200-250 °F for approximately 30 minutes to evaporate any last minute moisture, oils or contaminates.
Is it okay to Cerakote a barrel?
If you are fortunate enough to own a transferable machine gun, or if you like to “blaze” with your semi-auto, do not put DuraCoat on your barrel, as your barrel temperature will rise to over 1,000 degrees F. In those cases, use Cerakote. Our Cerakote coating can handle temperatures up to 1,800 degrees F.

Cerakote offers some distinct advantages over other finishes. First, the material has a good degree of lubricity, acting as a lubricant once the finish has been applied. A lot of users have found they need to use far less lubricant (if any) once their gun has been coated.
Does Cerakote chip?
Is Cerakote really durable? Absolutely. It won’t chip, flake or scratch off. Tests have shown it more durable than traditional bluing, parkerizing or other finishes.
Does Cerakote add thickness?
Most Cerakote applications, especially on firearms, involve a coating and curing process that leaves you with a 1 mil final thickness on top of the part, though this can be as low as a quarter of a mil, depending on the Cerakote Series.

The Cerakote, being a surface coating, does in fact wear off. Because of this, I only run my Cerakote pistols in leather or leather lined holsters for this reason.

Cerakote holds up excellent on slides. I think plastic holsters are pretty abusive on a finish. Doubt you’ll ever wear it out on a AR. It all depends on how you are using it. The average guy who goes to the range or does some hunting here and there will never have any complaints with either anodizing or Cerakote.

A handgun slide definitely takes a beating from any holster that hangs onto it.
Does the colt M9 Cerakote wear off?
In fairness to Colt, my issue M9 looked worse than the gun in the image above. That said, it shows a wear pattern familiar to those who have Cerakoted pistols and run them in polymer holsters. The Cerakote, being a surface coating, does in fact wear off.
