Does ParaGuard kill good bacteria?
No, it will not. Fully cycled aquariums typically make it through treatment with ParaGuard™ with no impact on the beneficial bacteria colonies at all. It is worth mentioning, though, that ParaGuard™ (like most medications) will slow down the growth of new beneficial bacteria colonies.
How long does it take for seachem ParaGuard to work?
ParaGuard™ is gentle enough to use prophylactically (without visible symptoms) if needed. Quarantine times vary, but we generally recommend 2 weeks of treatment with ParaGuard™ to clear out any possible external infections.
Is seachem ParaGuard an antibiotic?
A: PolyGuard™ is different from ParaGuard™ in the fact that PolyGuard™ contains antibiotics and ParaGuard™ acts more like a disinfectant/antiseptic and does not contain antibiotics.
Can I use general cure and ParaGuard together?
DO NOT USE THESE TWO PRODUCTS TOGETHER. Also keep in mind that it is not recommended to make major alterations to water chemistry while using a medication, as this will likely stress the bacteria colonies.
Can I use prime and ParaGuard together?
Does ParaGuard kill algae?
The paraguard made a noticeable improvement within a couple of days. What I’ve noticed is a stark reduction in algae in the tank.
Can I use ParaGuard with aquarium salt?
DO NOT USE THESE TWO PRODUCTS TOGETHER. Products like buffers and mineral additives can be used to make major alterations to water parameters, and while it is fine to use them in a tank being dosed with ParaGuard™, care should be taken not to alter water parameters too quickly or too drastically.
