How do I train for a 800 meter run?
Speed based 800m runners (400m/800m) often won’t convert well; you may need to multiply by 1.42.
- 2 sets of 2 x 400m (1min rest) and long recovery between sets. Add up your 2 broken 800ms and take the average.
- 4 x 400m (3mins rest).
- 2 sets of (4x200m) with 30sec rest between reps and long recovery between sets.
What is a good time for running 800 meters?
800-meter Run Test

Should 800m runners do tempo runs?
Tempo runs aka threshold runs: Long tempo runs at threshold pace (intensity zone 3) should be avoided by 400m/800m runners and pure 800m runners. 800m/1500m runner seems to respond better to this training. If you still want to do this training as the faster type of 800m runner, do the tempo run shorter, but faster.
Do you sprint the 800m?
The faster an athlete runs a race, the more anaerobic the race becomes for that person. But nonetheless you have to be able to sprint to run a great 800m! The race needs to be treated much more like a long and controlled sprint. 800m runners need an “aerobic base.” But this does not mean long slow running.
How many laps is 800 meters on a track?
2 laps

How Anaerobic is the 800m?
The 800 meter is approximately 67% anaerobic to 33% aerobic. The anaerobic system(LA) produces most of the energy during high intensity running of 1-3 minutes during which oxygen demands exceed oxygen supply.
