How to upgrade and log in with PINsentry
- Log in to Barclays Online Banking using your passcode and memorable word.
- Select the account services menu and choose ‘Upgrade to PINsentry’.
- Once you’ve received your PINsentry card reader, go to the Online Banking login page and select ‘Log in using PINsentry card reader’.
Can I use Barclays app without PINsentry?
You’ll only need to use a PINsentry card reader when you register for the Barclays app. If you don’t have one, you can complete your registration at one of our cash machines or in branch.
Why do I need a PINsentry card reader?
The PINsentry card reader is used to authenticate your identity by generating a one-off 8-digit code so that you can make use of all our Online Banking services. You can also use it to log in to Online Banking if you can’t remember your passcode.

To unlock your PIN, you need to visit a cash machine. You also need to know the correct PIN. Head to any of our UK cash machines, select ‘PIN services’ and follow the instructions. You can also get an instant PIN reminder if you can’t remember your PIN.
Why do I need a PINsentry card reader Barclays?

You will need to use a pen or similar tool to push down the catch on the back of the reader to release the battery drawer. The card-reader requires 2 x CR2032 batteries.
Can I still use contactless if my PIN is locked?
Note: If your PIN is locked, you cannot use contactless, withdraw cash or use your card online or in store with a locked card. Payments through e-wallets, standing orders and direct debits will continue to work.
What batteries does I need for Barclays PINsentry take?

Replacing them is easy – you’ll need four LR44 (1.5V) batteries and a small screwdriver. Use the screwdriver to remove the screw on the back of your PINsentry, and then take off the battery cover. When you replace the batteries, just make sure you put them in the right way up.
