How do lands work in Magic The Gathering?
Lands. Land cards tap to produce mana that is used to cast spells and activate abilities. They cost no mana to play; however, a player may play no more than one land per turn, and only during the main phases of their own turn.
Do lands go on the stack?
No, not usually. Both the rules (via a mechanism called Priority) and abilities (including spells) instruct you to play a land. The normal way to play lands is through the permission given by priority. A player is only given permission to do this when the stack is empty during a main phase of their turn.
Can you play a land on your opponent’s turn?
A player can’t play a land, for any reason, if it isn’t their turn. Ignore any part of an effect that instructs a player to do so.
Are lands considered permanents?
Although lands do count as permanents, they don’t have a color. A card’s color is defined by the symbols in the mana cost, and since lands have no mana cost, they are colorless.
Can you play a basic land and a land?
Any land with the supertype “basic” is a basic land. Any land that doesn’t have this supertype is a nonbasic land, even if it has a basic land type. 305.9. If an object is both a land and another card type, it can be played only as a land.
Can you tap land first turn?
You can however tap a land at the beginning of your turn use the mana cast a spell then still untap it during your untapp phase.
Can you play a land at any time?
A player can take this action any time he or she has priority and the stack is empty during a main phase of his or her turn. See rule 305, “Lands.” So, you didn’t have to tell him you were playing the land. You just put it on to the battlefield.
Can you flash in a land?
A player can’t play a land, for any reason, if it isn’t his or her turn. Ignore any part of an effect that instructs a player to do so. So, not only does flash not work, there is no possible way to “play” a land on an opponent’s turn.
Are lands a blue permanent?
Yes, lands are permanents.
