How do you care for a Sarracenia plant?

Can you grow Sarracenia in sphagnum moss?
Re: Sarracenia in Sphagnum moss purpurea growing wild in a sphagnum bog, so yes they will grow in sphagnum. I also have some growing in peat and they are doing well too. I’ve planted a lot of Sarracenia seeds this past winter and about half was on a mix of peat and perlite and the other half of chopped sphagnum.
How often should you water Sarracenia?
Place the pot in the deep saucer with water to around 1 inch of water level. Don’t worry too much about how wet the soil is – keep it damp to wet. General rule is to keep the soil wet in summer when the plant is active. You can also keep the soil very wet for few days in a month, during the summer period.
Do Sarracenias need full sun?
During the growing season, grow your Sarracenia outside in full sun with 6 or more hours of direct sunlight, for vigorous growth. If full sun is not possible, provide a minimum of 4 hours of direct sunlight with bright indirect light during the rest of the day.

Sarracenias are clump forming herbaceous perennials that grow as rosettes. The size of the individual wild species varies from 6″ tall (Sarracenia minor) to over 36″ tall (some subspecies of Sarracenia flava and Sarracenia leucophylla).

While the pitcher plant doesn’t usually smell, a bad smell can lead to something else. Their usual smell is rather minty due to the nectar they produce to eat their prey. It’s pleasant rather than hard to bear in your home, though.
