How do you find out what size spokes you need?
The measurements and information you need to determine spoke length are:
- The number of spoke holes in the hub and rim.
- The effective rim diameter, called the “ERD”
- Hub flange diameter at the spoke holes, also known as the Spoke Pitch Diameter.
- Left and right hub flange spacing relative to the hub center.
How do you use DT Swiss spoke calculator?
This tool allows you, as a professional wheelbuilder, to quickly and easily calculate the weight and correct spoke length for your wheel. Using the calculator, simply select the rim, hub, spokes and nipples from the selection menu – and hey presto – you have the weight and spoke length.
Are all spokes the same size?
You may need as many as three different spoke lengths. One length for the front wheel, one for the rear drive side, and one for the rear non-drive side.
How do you measure hub size?
To correctly measure the bolt circle of a hub, measure from the center of the hub to the center of a stud and multiple that measurement by two. The second specification to determine is the Inner and Outer bearing size.
How is wheel hub length measured?
The hub length is the measurement through the middle of the wheel (or hub) measuring from end point to end point (or bearing to bearing). You’ll want to make sure to measure through the center of the wheel and not just the outside as there will be space in your rim that will go unaccounted for.
How do you measure straight pull spokes?
They are measured from the point where it transitions from the head to the round section of the spoke or basically everything except the head.
How to calculate spoke lengths for the second side of the wheel?
To calculate spoke lengths for the second side of the wheel, re-enter data fields for: Hub Flange Diameter, Hub Center to Flange Center, and Cross Pattern. Then click Calculate again. This will produce accurate spoke lengths for the second side. Check out our UBI/DT Swiss Certified Wheel Builder seminar here!
Is there a spoke calculator available?
This spoke calculator is provided only as a guide for your convenience in determining spoke lengths for your order. It is provided on an “AS IS” and “WITH ALL FAULTS” basis only.
How many spokes does a hub motor have?
# Spokes: Almost all hub motors are drilled for 36 spokes. That’s a bit unfortunate, since most conventional rims these days have 32 holes. This calculator assumes that the number of holes in the rim matches the number on set here for the hub.
What size spoke do I need for my Rims?
ERD: This is the most essential measurement for determining the spoke length required for a particular rim. It is the diameter from where the very end of the spoke should sit in the laced up wheel. Generally speaking that is at the back of where the nipple fits in the rim.
