How do you program a Hobbywing ESC?
Holding the SET button and turn on the ESC, the RED LED on the ESC starts to flash (the motor beeps at the same time Note 2), and then release the SET button immediately. (The ESC will enter the programming mode if the SET button is not released in 3 seconds, then you need to restart from step 1.)
Are Hobbywing ESC any good?
Hobbywing makes a great product. I run it on a 110C 3S on a on road 4wd drift car and after running the ESC only gets slightly warm and basically no cogging. You can program without a program card which is nice if you just need to set a battery cut off or change the punch on start. Awesome product.

hobbywing is a good brand. hobbyking is a vendor that has some “house brand” electronics that are clones of some hobbywing products. hobbyking also sells turnigy batteries which i am very fond of. no need to avoid either, just know what you are buying.
What is ESC calibration?
Calibrating an ESC involves teaching the ESC what range of throttle inputs it should respond to. It needs to know what PWM value on the throttle channel corresponds with the commanding the motor to be off, and what PWM value corresponds with full throttle. These values are stored inside the ESC.
