Can you spray lacquer over wet stain?
Lacquer can be used over lacquer-base, non-grain-raising (NGR) and water-base stains and over lacquer-base fillers. It cannot be used over other finishes or over oil-base stains or many fillers; the solvents in lacquer will dissolve other finishes and incompatible stains and fillers.
Can you stain when it’s humid?
Humid weather – the #1 problem caused by humidity is longer drying times for stains and clear protective finishes. If it’s humid out, you can usually expect the stain or clear finish to take longer to dry than it says on the label. However, if you’re patient, it will dry.
Can you stain in high humidity?
Avoid high humidity and staining on hot surfaces. All finishes, including stains and paint, have trouble drying in moist conditions. Therefore, after a rain storm, let the surface to be stained dry for two to three days. Start staining on a side of your house not in direct sunlight.
Is Minwax polyurethane waterproof?
Yes, polyurethane provides a protective layer on hardwood (as well as furniture) making it harder for water to penetrate into the wood. But, it is not waterproof; rather, it’s water resistant.

How do you use Minwax varnish?
Apply Minwax® Wood Finish™ stain or Minwax® Lacquer Sanding Sealer, if desired, following label directions. Shake the can of Minwax® Clear Brushing Lacquer vigorously for two minutes. Shake for 10 seconds occasionally during use. Protect adjacent areas from overspray. Wet overspray can be removed with lacquer thinner.
Can Minwax® clear brushing lacquer be applied over stain?
Yes. Minwax® Clear Brushing Lacquer and Minwax® Lacquer Sanding Sealer can be applied over Minwax® Wood Finish™, Minwax® Water Based Wood Stains and Minwax® Gel Stains. If Lacquer Sanding Sealer is applied over stain, it is important not to sand too aggressively. Sanding through the sealer to the stain can damage the color.
