It is situated to the north of Central Newcastle. Gosforth constituted a separate urban district from 1895 until 1974. In 2001, it had a population of 23,620. There are three electoral wards that bear the Gosforth name: Dene and South Gosforth, Fawdon and West Gosforth, and Gosforth.
